Alton Art Society were involved in 3 activities during the first Arts Festival to be held in Alton.
Saturday 6th July - Arts in the Park
The rain lashed down and the wind blew strongly but it didn't deter members of the ALTON ART SOCIETY to run a "Come and Paint" morning.
They battled with two gazebos, flyaway canvases, wet clothes and soggy paper but visitors to the event run by the Art Festival were encouraged to come to paint anything they wanted to.
There was a HUGE canvas for adults to try their hand at and a roll of paper for children to come and paint with poster paints.
Art Society members met very keen future artists young and old and some artists already members of the AAS.
The large canvas went on display in Esquires Coffee Shop.
Monday 8th July - Paint and Prosecco
The Alton Arts Society held an event at Cassidy’s Wine Bar.
Seventeen lovely ladies attended the evening and were greeted with a glass of Prosecco. Each had been given a set of water colours, paper and a paint brush.
They came with a picture they would like to copy and some wonderful results were achieved.
We took names of those who would like to attend art classes and we will look into this for them.
A big thank you to Sally Cox & Margaret Crowe for guiding the artists and also Becca & husband at Cassidy’s for keeping the fizz going and making us all so welcome.
Friday 12th July – Getting started with Pastels
Sally Cox, assisted by Mike Downs, led a session in The Allen Gallery on behalf of the Alton Art Society.
Eleven enthusiastic people followed Sally’s instructions and produced some wonderful pastel paintings, showing how easy this medium can be.
Coffee and delicious cakes were supplied by the Allen Gallery and then everyone did at least one other pastel painting of a subject of their choice and left with a set of pastels to use at home.
Everyone enjoyed these events and several said they were encouraged to join the society.
